SUMMARY
The Project Engineer/Designer designs and details compressor systems and provides technical support to users of Dearing’s engineered products. Recipients of this support include Dearing production, field service personnel, 3rd party design firms, customers and/or end users. The Project Engineer is responsible for ensuring unit designs satisfy all applicable codes, standards, and customer specifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSABILITIES
To include, but not limited to, the following:
- Review and integrate customer specifications.
- Perform mechanical/process design of complete compressor systems, including piping, vessels, coolers and instrumentation based on required specifications, applicable codes, and industry standards.
- Generate piping and instrumentation drawings (P&ID), bill of materials (BOM), drawing packet cover sheets, and unit spare parts lists.
- Work with analysis firms on acoustic, mechanical, and torsional reports and integrate into the project design.
- Work with vendors on needed equipment, including drawing reviews and approvals.
- Review and approve project detail drawings.
- Main point of contact for customers and 3rd party design firms on assigned projects, design approvals, and project schedules.
- Participate in customer meetings, shop tours, test runs, design reviews, standards reviews, and engineering scheduling meetings.
- Provide support to production, purchasing, and supply chain departments.
- Provide technical support to Dearing shop, field service personnel, 3rd party design firms, and end users.
- Assist with troubleshooting issues encountered in both fabrication and in the field.
- Work with quality control providing support and documentation for in-process and completed units.
- Generate and maintain change order requests with customers.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience
- Preferred: Completion of B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or B.S.A.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology
- 1 – 3 years in an engineering based technical role
- In lieu of degree: 3-5 years of experience in a technical/project engineering role within oil & gas (preferred), heavy equipment manufacturing, or any other project-based engineering industry.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of the following software:
- 2D design software (Autodesk AutoCAD)
- Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as engineering specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write technical reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, vendors, employees, and trade associations.

- Proficiency with gas compressor packaging design and fabrication.

- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Reading from a computer monitor and written documentation. Requires bending, standing, and reaching. Sitting for long periods of time, may lift and/or move at least 35 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is an on-site role based in Youngstown, OH, and employees must have reliable transportation. Dearing Compressor is a drug-free workplace. Work includes both office and plant settings. The office is generally quiet, while plant areas require PPE (steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection) and may involve exposure to machinery, odors, particles, and vibration.
