Field Service Technician

Summary: Travels to perform certified startup, package commissioning, package reassembly, warranty repair services and mechanical overhaul/rebuild on Dearing packaged equipment and products manufactured by others, at customer's location, as directed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Performs preventive and corrective field mechanical service.
• Independently diagnose, repair, and rebuild compressor, gas and/or electric engines in various conditions.
• Overhaul compressors packages, input data logs, understand wiring systems and electrical systems.
• Assist installation and commissioning of new packages.
• Read schematics with the ability to diagnose and repair, complex electrical issues.
• Conduct timely rebuilds, overhauls, and controls on compressor packages in the field or shop
• Responsible for submitting accurate maintenance reports, expense reports, timesheets and other necessary paperwork daily.
• Works in collaboration with the Field Engineers, customers and subcontractors.
• Complies with site specific PPE and safety regulations.
• Performs work in various climate, geography and environmental conditions.
• Works overtime on nights and weekends as required.
• Provides mentoring and coaching to less experienced team members.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1-5+ years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
• A minimum of one year in a vocational/ technical training or apprenticeship program. Experience repairing heavy equipment, compressors and gas engines. 
• Ability to weld in the field 
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as engineering specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
• Ability to write technical reports and correspondence. 
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, vendors, employees, and trade associations.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. 
• Periodic lifting requirements in excess of 50 lbs.  Must have ability to stand and walk on uneven and varied terrain, climb ladders and stairs; and stoop, squat, kneel, crouch and crawl depending on the task requirements.

Work Environment:  The work environment described here is representative of those an employee encounters while working at Dearing Compressor. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the specific job.  The exposure in the office areas are typical and plant operations areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as steel toed shoes, safety glasses with side shields, FR clothing, gas monitors and hearing protection.  In the plant area, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts.  Temperature of manufacturing work area may be affected by outside temperatures and machining operations.  The employee is occasionally exposed to odors, airborne particles, and vibration.  The noise level in the manufacturing area is usually loud.  The noise level in the office is usually quiet. During trips into the field, there may be other exposures beyond those stated due to field conditions. Working conditions in natural gas compression vary from one job site to another.  Some job sites are indoors in compressor stations while other sites are outside.
